BBQ EEL (UNAGI)

A favorite food and essential component to Japanese culinary culture, unagi is becoming increasingly popular in the U.S. Unagi offers good nutritional value and fat content, and for the past thousand years, Japanese people have touted the benefits of eating it, believing that the fish is beneficial to one’s overall health, helps recover energy lost during hot summer days, and can even improve one’s love life. Eel is so popular in Japan that there is a designated “Eel Day” each summer, when people celebrate and eat the fish. Our barbecued eel offers a delectable balance of sweet and savory, and makes a comforting traditional meal when paired with steamed rice (unagi don).

To ensure the freshest product, our barbecued eel is live processed to high Japanese standards. The eel is made from the live Japanese variety, offering firmer meat than can be found elsewhere. These wild-caught baby grass eels grow in clean, fresh water. Because no winter eels are used, the bones of our product are softer, making for an easy dining experience. The unagi are barbecued three times and marinated for outstanding flavor, and packaged in just the right amount of sauce to complement the fish.
